The 1983 quality standard for coffee was recently revised and became effective as of October 1990. the new standard is still based on the defect system but now classifies the beans of both Dry Processed (WP) coffee into 6 different grades and 2 sub grades, grade 4-a and grade 4-b.
General Requirements Moisture content, maximum 12% for WP Coffee and 13% for DP Coffee.
Extraneous matters, maximum 0,5%
Free of live insects, stinkers and moldy beans.
Coffee beans are graded according to their respective defect values from a sample of 300 g.

Certificate of quality coffee exported from Indonesia shall be covered by a certificate of quality, issued by government authorized quality control laboratories, operating in major coffee marketing centers throughout the country.
